Food poisoning death in Telangana: Cops stop BRS leaders from meeting parents

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district after the police stopped BRS leaders from entering Daba village on Tuesday morning, following the death of a 16-year-old girl student due to food poisoning in a government-run tribal welfare residential school.

C Sailaja, a student of Wankidi Tribal Welfare Residential School, fought for her life for over 20 days after falling ill after eating dinner in the hostel on October 31. She, along with a few other students, was shifted to local hospitals.

The other students recovered and they returned to their respective homes. However, Sailaja was shifted to NIMS in Hyderabad, where she died on Monday night.

Following her death, Asifabad BRS MLA and other leaders attempted to visit Daba village on Tuesday morning to meet Sailaja's family. However, the police stopped them.

“It is shameful to stop MLA Kova Lakshmi and other public representatives who were going to the village to give assurance to the parents who lost their child. It is undemocratic and an infringement on media freedom to obstruct the media, which is trying to showcase the parents' anguish, by setting up barricades 10 km from the village. The death of the girl is unequivocally a result of government negligence. Just because the government behaves as if it is not at fault does not mean that the unfortunate loss of the student's life will go unnoticed.,” said BRS leader, T Harish Rao.
