Parthiv Patel conceded the mood in the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp is not upbeat after four successive defeats but the wicketkeeper-batsman believes the team has enough talented personnel to turn things around.
.
“Obviously, we can’t shy away from saying that we are under the pump. That’s definitely the case, there is no doubt about it,” said Parthiv following a practice session at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday. "We can’t sit here and say we are 0-4 and we are happy about it! But the only thing, to be honest, we are quite positive about the team we have.
.
“We have always spoken about it in the dressing room of the kind of team we have we don’t deserve to have lost four games in a row. Mumbai (Indians) game was tight. Even if you look at last game (against Rajasthan Royals), we didn’t field well, bat well or bowl well and still the game went almost to the last ball. We feel that if we play to our potential, we will get that required momentum which is required in this tournament.”
.
Parthiv has made a quiet impact so far, scoring 138 runs to be the leading run scorer of RCB. While delighted with his personal form, the diminutive player felt it would have meant more had the team won a few games. “Obviously I am quite happy with the way I have played but individual performances don’t matter as much. Whoever plays in the XI tries to do well and exactly what I have been trying to do. Every time I get a chance to play, I try to perform to the best of my ability and I am glad the performances have come so far.”
.
While embattled RCB are ripe for the taking, Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Piyush Chawla said his team won’t be taking the hosts lightly on Friday. “We all know what kind of team RCB has got and four games down does not mean they are down and out because we know the quality of players they have and they will bounce back for sure. I am sure they are going to come back even more hard at us. Obviously, we have to play some good cricket if we want to beat them.”
.
Bowling has been a worry for KKR with the team conceding more than 183 runs in all the three games so far. Chawla though felt it’s not a cause for concern. “When we played at Kolkata we all know how the wicket was playing, it was playing really well. Even though we conceded more than 180 in the second game against Kings XI, we also scored 220 odd runs. We could have done a bit better in the game against Delhi as a bowling unit. I don't think there is anything to worry about. But we definitely like to pull things back.”
