Jharkhand Assembly Election Highlights: Peaceful, Naxal violence-free voting, 66.18% turnout recorded in 43 assembly seats
A voter turnout of 66.18 per cent was recorded in the 43 assembly constituencies in Jharkhand where polling was held in the first phase on Wednesday. While the JMM-led coalition is seeking to retain power riding on its welfare schemes, the BJP has been campaigning with its aggressive Hindutva agenda, infiltration and alleged corruption by the current dispensation. Lohardaga district topped the list with 73.21 per cent polling today while Hazaribag district recorded the lowest at 59.13. The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance has promised Rs 3,000 per month to women in Maharashtra as part of their poll guarantees, which NCP chief Ajit Pawar criticised, calling it 'bluffing' by making such promises. On the other hand, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren termed the BJP a "showroom of lies and hatred" as he alleged that crores of rupees were being spent by the saffron party to spread hatred, social animosity and lies against him. Assembly Elections 2024 Highlights: Congress releases third list of 16 candidates for Maharashtra polls
With assembly polls of two states, Jharkhand and Maharashtra right next door, the parties have begun releasing the lists of their candidates and filing nominations. A total of 199 nominations have been filed in Maharashtra in the last 4 days. Jharkhand also witnessed the nomination of leaders for the upcoming polls yesterday, wherein Champai Soren filed his nomination from BJP and Lois Maranadi, an ex-BJP leader was filed from JMM. On Saturday, BJP released their second list of candidates for Maharashtra, while other parties like Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP(SP) and MNS also named their candidates for some of the remaining seats in the state. JMM released its third list of five candidates for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly polls, fielding incumbent legislators Chamra Linda, Sukhram Oraon and Jiga Susaran Horo from Bishunpur, Chakradharpur and Sisai seats respectively. Kalpana Soren, JMM leader and wife of Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren filed her nomination as party candidate from Gandey Assembly constituency. CM Hemant Soren have also filed his nomination from Barhait constituency. Earlier in the day, CPI(M) announced candidates for nine seats ahead of Jharkhand polls. Elections Highlights | Congress, NCP (SP), Shiv Sena (UBT) to contest 85 seats each in Maharashtra polls
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has decided to go with a 85-85-85 seat-sharing formula for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, with the Congress, NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT) set to contest in 85 seats each. The remaining seats shall be left for the smaller allies part of the MVA. Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra marked her electoral debut as she filed her nomination papers today for the upcoming Lok Sabha bypolls in Kerala's Wayanad. Assembly Elections 2024 Highlights | Raj Thackeray's MNS announces 45 candidates; RJD releases 6 names for Jharkhand
As many as 57 candidates filed nomination papers on Tuesday, the first day of the exercise for the November 20 assembly polls in Maharashtra, Election Commission (EC) officials said. State Congress president Nana Patole sought to downplay differences among Maha Vikas Aghadi allies in finalising seat-sharing for the November 20 assembly polls and said the ruling Mahayuti has bigger disputes on the issue than the opposition bloc. Meanwhile, the RJD released list of six candidates for Jharkhand assembly polls. MNS released its first list of 45 candidates for the November 20 Maharashtra assembly polls. Seats have not yet been announced for either of the big alliances in the state yet.
