After paralysing Chennai for nearly a week, the rains have now shifted to south Tamil Nadu, Kanyakumari. Disrupting daily life, several places in the district are partially submerged in water and there were reports of water entering the homes in many low-lying areas. Kerala Rains: IMD issues red alert for 5, orange for 7 districts

Heavy rains lashed Kerala forcing the authorities to issue a red alert in 5 districts, while 7 districts are given an orange alert and two districts are under yellow alert, thereby indicating that all the 14 districts in the state are experiencing heavy rains.

Chiplun inundated as heavy rains pound Maharashtra's Ratnagiri: See Pics

Chiplun, Khed and some other towns in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri were inundated following heavy rains. More than 50 per cent area of Chiplun, located around 250km from Mumbai and having a population of over 70,000, is submerged in floodwaters.

Europe's worst floods in decades: Aerial pictures show scale of devastation

Devastating floods have torn through entire villages and killed at least 128 people in Europe, most of them in western Germany where stunned emergency services were still combing the wreckage. Unsuspecting residents were caught completely off guard by the torrent dubbed as the "flood of death". Streets and houses were submerged in water in some areas while cars were left overturned on soaked streets after flood waters passed. Some districts were completely cut off.
