Karnataka’s SC, ST Employees’ Association on Wednesday contended before the Supreme Court that the SC/ST employees will continue to remain as backward, forcing the state authorities to take positive steps, like reservation in promotion, to protect them as long as untouchability and cases of atrocities against the community continue in the country.

Promotion quota: SC orders status quo on new law
The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Karnataka government on a plea challenging the validity of a fresh law passed to safeguard the reservation in promotions to Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes (SC/STs) employees in government jobs. It also asked the state government to maintain the status quo as it decided to examine the matter.
