Mumbai: After a humiliating defeat for the Shiv Sena (UBT), former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and his close aide Sanjay Raut trained guns on former Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud.
After analysing the reasons for the defeat on Saturday evening, Thackeray expressed concern over Justice Chandrachud not ruling on the Shiv Sena split.
Alleging some “gadbad”, Thackeray said, “The Supreme Court have not given their verdict on the issue of the names/symbols (of Shiv Sena vs Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP vs NCP (UBT) …for nearly two years, the elections were still held…so, whom do we trust or turn to?”
Taking it further on Sunday, Sanjay Raut, a Rajya Sabha member, hit out at Justice Chandrachud.
"He (Chandrachud) has removed the fear of the law from defectors. His name will be written in black letters in history,” said Raut, adding, “By not deciding on the disqualification petitions, Justice Chandrachud kept doors and windows open for defections.”
During the annual Dussehra rally and also in election rallies, Thackeray had spoken about it.
"If you really want to go down in history, then now is the opportunity… there's still time before you retire — save democracy, save democracy, save democracy. The whole nation is looking up to you. Please take a decision that would make the country proud of you," Thackeray had said referring to the pleas challenging the ruling of Speaker Rahul Narwekar on Shiv Sena split.
