Campaigning ends in Kairana LS by-poll

Campaigning came to an end in the crucial Lok Sabha bypoll in Kairana constituency, about 500 km from here, on Saturday.

Polling would be held in Kairana and Noorpur Assembly constituency on Monday and counting of votes would be taken up on Wednesday.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has fielded Tabassum Hasan, who is contesting the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) symbol.

The BJP has fielded Mriganka Singh, the daughter of senior saffron party leader Hukum Singh, whose death necessitated the bypoll in Kairana.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the constituencies to ensure free and fair polling, officials said on Saturday.
