Amid a controversy over who hoists the flag at the Delhi government's Independence Day ceremony here, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia Tuesday assailed Lt Governor V K Saxena, saying there should be no problem with an elected minister doing it. The Delhi government's General Administration Department (GAD) has refused to comply with its minister Gopal Rai's direction to make arrangements for Education Minister Atishi to hoist the national flag as per a letter by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to the L-G.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday questioned the Prime Minister on his decision to visit Ukraine and Poland but not visit Manipur, which has seen continued strife and violence in the past few months.
BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan said, "Congress protest is a cover-up, camouflage and a smokescreen. The protest venue probably reveals the real intent of Congress, which is probably to intimidate and browbeat the ED which is investigating the National Herald case...The National Herald case makes the Congress leadership anxious and worried, that is very clear."
BJP's Shehzad Poonawalla commenting on the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata said, "What happened in Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital is similar to Nirbhaya gang rape case. But instead of doing the 'Beti Bachao' campaign, there is an 'Apradhi Bachao' campaign going on. This is all being done because it is not rape, it is a gang rape."
RJD MP Manoj Jha said, "Justice should be delivered swiftly. I am pained that even after the Nirbhaya case, the country has not learnt."

The ruling BJP swept the three-tier Panchayat polls in Tripura, winning 97 per cent of seats, an official said on Wednesday.
The BJP secured victory uncontested in 71 per cent of the seats in Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and Zilla Parishads. The voting for the remaining 29 per cent seats was held on August 8 and the counting ended on Tuesday. (PTI)
Delhi HC issues notice to BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj on AAP leader Somnath Bharti's plea challenging her election in Lok Sabha polls 2024.
Ram Jatan Sinha, who quit Congress in 2012, rejoined party in the presence of party leader Pawan Khera in Delhi. Sinha joined the JD(U) in 2019, but left the party next year after he was reportedly denied poll ticket.
"Ram Jatan Sinha went away from us due to some reasons in 2012, but could not go to anyone else... Our generation has a lesson to learn from Ram Jatan ji that a flower of Congress party can only grow in bloom in Congress bed," said Congress leader Pawan Khera.
