Radhakrishna, a corporator of Mangaluru City Corporation Ward 26, tendered his resignation to the post of general secretary of the District Congress Committee (DCC) and the party’s primary membership on Tuesday.
Radhakrishna, who hails from Billava community, told reporters at Patrika Bhavan that he had resigned in protest against the party’s decision to deny tickets to leaders from the Billava community in Udupi and Mangaluru. “This decision of the Congress is a humiliation of the members of Billava Community. The community should vote against the Congress in the Lok Sabha polls,” he urged.
Radhakrishna, a first-time corporator, had been serving in Congress since 1980. He also had served as chairman of Taxation, Finance and Appeals standing committee. In response to a query, said he was undecided about joining the BJP and will take a final decision after consulting his people in the ward.
