In what was expected to be a neck and neck competition between Congress and the ruling BJP, the saffron party has swept the state with leads in 47seats out of 70, as per the Election Commission of India. As of 8 pm, BJP has won 39 seats, easily crossing the half-way mark. Main opponent Congress bagged only 16 seatsand is expected to win a total of 19 seats.Incumbent CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and former CM and Congress stalwart Harish Rawat lost from their respective constituencies, ending the contest in two most-watched seats in disappointment.
