West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the movie The Accidental Prime Minister, alleging that the movie has been made with an eye on the Lok Sabha elections.

“Ahead of the elections, a movie called 'The Accidental Prime Minister' has been released. I cannot understand what they mean by ‘accidental Prime Minister’. Those who are resorting to such drama should also make a movie called The Disastrous Prime Minister,” said Banerjee. She was addressing the gathering at a government program at Barasat in North 24 Paraganas district.

Without naming the Prime Minister, Banerjee said he should look at his face in the mirror. She also compared the Prime Minister with the fictional character of the bandit Gabbar Singh.

“Look at your (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) own face in the mirror. This fellow can neither smile nor talk properly. People are afraid to see him. They think Gabbar Singh has arrived,” said the Chief Minister.

Firing a fresh salvo at the Prime Minister, Banerjee alleged Doordarshan has turned into BJP-Darshan and only Narendra Modi’s speeches are being broadcast by them.

“Doordarshan has turned into BJP-darshan. Everyday, there is only Modi Ki Baat and everyone else is left out." She also said that that under the guise of the movie The Accidental Prime Minister what is being shown is a distortion of facts.

“There are differences between me and Congress. I left Congress and formed Trinamool Congress (TMC). But I think what is being done (in The Accidental Prime Minister) is a distortion of facts and it is wrong,” said Banerjee. Her comments comes on a day when the screening of the movie at a cinema hall in Kolkata was halted following protests by Youth Congress leaders.

She lashed out at the Centre over the Income Tax Department’s notice to Durga Puja Committee’s to declare their income from Durga Puja.

“The organisers of Durga Puja do not do it for profit. These are non-profit organisations,” said Banerjee. She also said that since Durga Puja is a religious festival the organisers do not have to pay tax for it.

"If Modi and BJP try to disturb any club (which organise Durga Pujas) we will not spare them," said the Chief Minister.
