J&K Assembly exit polls after 6 pm

Authorities have said exit poll predictions could be aired only after 6 pm on October 5 for Jammu and Kashmir polls.

According to the guidelines issued by the Election Commission (EC) on August 31 and under the provisions of section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, all media outlets, polling agencies and individuals are informed that publication or broadcast of exit poll results related to the Jammu and Kashmir election may be done after 6 pm on October 5, the office of the chief electoral officer (CEO) said in a statement on Monday.

It said violations of the guidelines may lead to legal action, including fines and imprisonment.

The EC has said violations of the guidelines may lead to legal action, including fines and imprisonment.

"The restriction applies to all forms of media, including newspapers, television channels, radio, online news portals, social media platforms and messaging services like WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram etc. It also applies to political parties, candidates, polling agencies and any individuals engaged in election-related activities," the statement said.

It said the CEO, along with the district election officers, returning officers and law-enforcement agencies, will monitor compliance. "Any violations will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law," it added.

Last one hour remaining for voting in Haryana

Voting for Haryana assembly election is underway.  Over 53 per cent voter turnout has been recorded so far, an hour before the voting is scheduled to conclude.

Recap of 2019 Haryana exit polls results

In the 2019 assembly elections in Haryana, most polls predicted a decisive victory for the BJP. India Today had forecast 38 seats for the BJP, 36 for Congress, and 8 for other parties.

Similarly, the ABP-C Voter projected 72 seats for the BJP and 8 for Congress, while News 18-IPSOS estimated 75 seats for the BJP and 10 for Congress.

However, the election resulted in a hung Assembly, with no party securing a majority.

'My doors are open for everyone,' says Engineer Rashid

President of Awami Ittehad Party & Member of Parliament, Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid on Saturday said that his doors are open for everyone after exit polls predicted a hung assembly in J&K.

"I am thankful to former CM of Punjab Charanjeet Channi who had spoken about me and raised concern about me during Parliament session. My doors are open for everyone. He had come to my house today. I thanked him for speaking for me in Parliament when many other MPs from J&K did not," he told news agency ANI.
