Cyclone Biparjoy Highlights: Aim is to ensure 'zero casualty' and minimize possible damage, says HM Amit Shah in review meeting
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that Cyclone Biparjoy has turned from extreme to a 'very severe' cyclonic storm. Amit Shah chaired a review meeting on the preparedness of the cyclone. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has appealed to follow guidelines and stay indoors. Meanwhile, heavy rains lashed several parts of Gujarat's Aravalli under the influence of cyclone. As the cyclone with an extensive damaging potential is likely to make landfall near Jakhau port in Gujarat's Kutch district on Thursday evening, the administration has shifted 21,000 people from different coastal districts to temporary shelters. An 'orange' alert is still in effect for the state's Saurashtra and Kutch coasts. PM Modi, in a high-level meeting chaired on Monday directed officials to ensure safe evacuation of people living in vulnerable locations in the path of the cyclone.
