Shiradi, Sampaje Ghat closure hits KSRTC bus services

The closure of Shiradi and Sampaje Ghats, which connect Mangaluru with Bengaluru and Mysuru, has hit KSRTC bus services.

According to the KSRTC officials, the bus services have been reduced by 50%. In fact, no buses from Puttur KSRTC Division operate to Mysuru.

Speaking to DH, Puttur KSRTC DC Nagaraj Shirali said, "No buses from Puttur division travel to Mysuru while 22 buses, including Karnataka Sarige buses, are being operated to Bengaluru via Charmadi Ghat. No premiere buses can run on the Charmadi Ghat.”

Normally, 10 to 12 buses operate from Puttur division to Mysuru and 70 buses, including 25 priemere buses, operate to Bengaluru from the division.

Mangaluru KSRTC Divisional Controller Deepak Kumar said that four Volvo buses operated from Mangaluru to Bengaluru on Monday. The landslide on Kalasa-Mangaluru stretch on Sunday had delayed the Volvo buses reaching the destination.

Meanwhile, the KSRTC operates Karnataka Sarige buses to Bengaluru via Charmadi Ghat.

The closure of Shiradi Ghat and Sampaje Ghat (Mani-Mysuru) has affected the people of Dakshina Kannada in reaching Bengaluru and other hinterland areas.

As of now, the vehicular movement on Shiradi Ghat is blocked till August 25.

Sampaje Ghat too is blocked with the landslide at multiple locations from Jodupala to Madikeri.

Following the closure of Shiradi and Sampaje Ghats, the KSRTC had suspended the services of 115 premiere buses between Mangaluru and Bengaluru. At least 3,500 passengers travel between Mangaluru and Bengaluru and Mysuru daily.

The KSRTC Mangaluru division operates buses to Mysuru once in two hours based on the demand. There is not much demand to travel to Mysuru, Deepak Kumar said.

Train via Palakkad

Train Number 16566 Mangaluru Central-Yeshwantpur left Mangaluru Central at 8.15 pm on Monday, via Shornoor-Palakkad-Tirupathur Jn to reach Bengaluru.

Mangaluru-Bengaluru train services have been cancelled due to damage to railway tracks in a Ghat between Subrahmanya Road to Yedakumeri.

Train No 16528 Kannur-Yashwantpur Express left Kannur at 6.05 pm on Monday.

One Express Special train was operated between Coimbatore and Huballi via Yashwantpur on Monday.

Following a landslide on petronet pipeline at Neriya, the supply has been suspended for the time being.

PWD Executive Engineer Shivaprasad Ajila said, “I have visited the spot. Experts have been asked to visit the spot.”
