Union Budget 2024 | Nirmala Sitharaman has done injustice to Karnataka, says CM Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday termed the Union Budget “very disappointing’’ and said that the Centre has not considered any of the state’s demands or requests made to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Addressing a news conference to share his opinion on the Union Budget, the chief minister said the 16th Finance Commission is due to visit the state on August 28.

“We will place all the injustice caused to Karnataka under the 15th Finance Commission before the 16th Commission. Union government Rajyakke Chombu kottide, raitarige Panga naama hakide anta,” Siddaramaiah said.

Siddaramaiah said that Karnataka was expecting to get All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to Raichur and funds for the Upper Bhadra project.

“There is no mention about Mekedatu, Upper Krishna, Mahadayi and even about development projects for Bengaluru. The budget lacks focus on Karnataka though five Union ministers are from Karnataka and the Finance Minister herself has been elected from the state. It is very disappointing,” Siddaramaiah said.

He said it appears that Union government wants to keep only Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu happy and hence the budget gives importance to Bihar and Andhra Pradesh.

Siddaramaiah alleged that the Centre was trying to takeover the co-operation sector, which is actually a state subject.
