<p>Monsoon gained strength in <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/kerala">Kerala </a>by Wednesday as it wrecked havoc across the state. </p><p><br>Kerala received the highest rainfall of the season on Wednesday and is remaining on high alert. </p><p>IMD has sounded an orange alert in eight districts and forecasted heavy rains in many parts of the state in the coming days.</p><p>The state received an average rainfall of around 70 mm during the last 24 hours with Kottayam district in central Kerala receiving over 100 mm. Some parts of Kottayam received around 190 mm rainfall in 24 hours.</p>.Assam flood situation improves, nearly 1.5 lakh still affected.<p>Revenue minister K Rajan, who reviewed the situation, said that the heavy rainfall in such a short duration leads to risk of flash floods. The water levels of dams are constantly being monitored while people living in areas prone flooding to are being evacuated.</p><p><br>Various parts of the state reported incidents of trees being uprooted and houses suffering damages. </p><p>Scores of houses in the coastal areas of Kochi were damaged in sea erosion. </p>
