The Haryana assembly elections on Saturday saw a turnout of over 66 per cent, with several exit polls predicting a clear majority for the Congress, which is eyeing a comeback after a decade.
According to the Election Commission's statement, the single phase of polls in 90 assembly seats held from 7 am to 6 pm concluded largely peacefully, except for stray incidents of minor scuffles.
"BJP will form the government with full majority in both the places (Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana). The BJP government will get the blessings of the people. The way Prime Minister Modi has worked for the poor in the last 10 years, he has built development and trust in Jammu & Kashmir. People are voting for BJP and the results will come on the 8th in which the corrupt and looters will lose..."
"The people’s blessings are with PM Narendra Modi. BJP is receiving the support of the people, and the trends shown in the exit polls indicate that BJP has emerging as the largest party. I am confident that the actual results will be even better than the exit polls for BJP."
In a democracy, ebb and flow are par for the course. From Himachal to Karnataka, where the BJP lost, the vote was against the incumbent and not for the Congress. Even then, the celebrations were outsized, obituaries premature. Today, both the Govts are tottering and bankrupt. Karnataka Chief Minister is neck deep in corruption, embroiled in several land grab cases. The Congress, after one term, couldn’t retain either Chattisgarh or Rajasthan.
"...We will get absolute majority in Jammu-Kashmir too... People in Haryana are fed up with BJP, fed up with their lies... So it can be said with confidence that in Haryana we will get more than a two-thirds majority and in Jammu-Kashmir we will form the government with a simple majority"
"We will not need any kind of alliance, I have said from the very beginning that the BJP will form the govt alone. We have all the arrangements... I am confident that BJP will alone form the government but if we need that (alliance) we will give it a thought, we have all the arrangements," said Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini.
Stringent security arrangements have been put in place at all district headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir for the counting of votes on Tuesday for the 90-member assembly, paving way for first elected government in the Union Territory following the abrogation of Article 370 five years ago.
"According to my assessment, Congress will win more than 60 seats... Congress is being seen as a viable alternative... There was heavy anti-incumbency, especially the weaker sections felt suppressed... BJP never had any connection or communication with the common people... Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra was the turning point..., " Selja told news agency ANI.
"...I am confident that NC and Congress will comfortably form the govt. I congratulate them (to PDP if they want to extend their support to our alliance). We all are on the same path, we need to end the hatred and keep the J&K integrated...," says NC chief Farooq Abdullah.
"There is a good atmosphere in Haryana and I have full faith that we will make a strong government in Haryana. In J&K we will form a coalition government...," said Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav.
"...There are ups and downs in politics. We do not know what will happen, the decision of the people is sealed in the EVM...," Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary said.
