Mumbai: Amid tensions and ego-clashes within the Maha Vikas Aghadi over seat-sharing, the Congress high-command on Saturday reached out to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and resolved most of the issues in the run up to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly polls.

Thackeray already had extensive discussions with NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar and there is clarity over seat-sharing among the two regional parties.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Ramesh Chennithala, who is in-charge of Maharashtra, met Thackeray at Matoshree, the Bandra bungalow of the Thackeray family.

Earlier, the Congress leadership comprising state Congress President Nana Patole, state Working President Naseem Khan and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly had a meeting at Tilak Bhavan, the Congress state headquarters.

Over the past few days, there has been a bitter war-of-words between Patole and Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut, the confidante of Thackeray.

Emerging out of the Mantralaya, Chennithala, who was accompanied by Khan and former Mumbai Congress chief Bhai Jagtap, said that he had gone to meet Thackeray to inquire about his health as the Sena (UBT) chief had been hospitalised a few days ago.

"The MVA will contest the assembly elections unitedly, and the seat-sharing talks will be held in the presence of Patole, Jayant Patil (state NCP (SP) President) and Sanjay Raut," he said.

Earlier in the morning, Raut said that Chennithala is a senior leader of Congress, adding, "We have discussed various issues regarding seat sharing."

Raut has openly accused Patole of adopting an adamant approach to the seat sharing process, particularly in Vidarbha.

Assembly Elections 2024 | The Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place against the backdrop of a fractured political landscape in the western state where the Shiv Sena and NCP will be going up against the Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar factions, even as the BJP and Congress try to make their mark. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM faces a new challenge after Hemant Soren's recent arrest and Champai, a longstanding party member, joining the BJP. The Haryana election resulted in a shock loss for Congress, which was looking to galvanize on the Lok Sabha poll performance, while J&K also saw the grand old party eventually stepping away from the cabinet, with Omar Abdullah's JKNC forming government. It remains to be seen if the upcoming polls help BJP cement its position further or provide a fillip to I.N.D.I.A.
